Why can’t I start recording?
Allow microphone access in iOS Settings for Hearigence. If the app requests speech recognition permission, allow it for transcription. Check that a microphone is available and that your device has free storage.
When microphone permission is off, the app shows an Open Settings option. You can revoke permissions later in iOS Settings.
What if a speech model is still preparing?
The first use of a language may download Apple’s speech assets. Keep an internet connection and enough free storage while preparation finishes. Available languages depend on your device, iOS version, and Apple’s installed assets.
Record audio now lets you capture a memo without waiting for recognition. This audio-only mode does not produce a live transcript. On iOS 26 or later, use Refine Transcript when a supported local model becomes available.
How do I record in two languages?
Choose two different spoken languages in Transcription settings, such as Chinese and English. The app combines their recognition results into one transcript so you can change languages during a recording. Regional variants of the same language do not count as two different languages.
Both languages must support local recognition on your device. If the pair is unavailable, try another supported pair or record audio first. Short words, accents, overlapping voices, and similar-sounding phrases can be misrecognized; review the text against the original audio.
How does Live Translate work?
On iOS 18 or later, turn on Live Translate in the recording screen. Supported sentences and clauses are translated into the other selected language using Apple’s local translation capabilities. The system may ask to download language packs.
Translation support varies by language pair and system. Translation appears live in a separate panel and is not saved with the memo. A translation problem does not replace the original transcript or stop transcription.
Can I improve or edit a transcript?
Open a memo and choose Edit to change the transcript. Changes save automatically. You can tap a timed word while viewing the transcript to play the corresponding audio.
On iOS 26 or later, Refine Transcript runs the original audio through Apple’s accuracy-focused local recognition mode. It asks before replacing existing text edits, supports cancellation, and keeps the original audio. A failed recognition attempt or a result with no speech preserves the existing transcript. Refinement does not guarantee a more accurate result.
What happens when recording is interrupted?
The app stops and saves an active recording when it moves to the background, the microphone route changes, or an audio interruption occurs. Return to the app to start a new recording.
Recovery drafts help recover audio after an unexpected app termination. The recovered transcript may miss the last few seconds of text; the recorded audio can remain available for later refinement. If storage fails, the app reports the problem and preserves recoverable files rather than promising a successful save.
Which devices and features are supported?
The app targets iOS 15 or later. Local recognition availability depends on the device, selected languages, and installed Apple assets. Live Translate requires iOS 18 or later; the current Refine Transcript control requires iOS 26 or later.
Transcription and translation can contain errors. Clear speech, a suitable microphone distance, and a quieter environment can help. Personal vocabulary supplies recognition hints rather than guaranteeing a particular spelling. Review important information against the recording.
Contact support
Email hello@hearigence.com with your device model, iOS version, selected languages, and the steps that led to the problem. Include the error message if one appears. Please avoid sharing private recordings or transcripts unless they are needed and you choose to send them.
Mention whether you are using the iOS app or the separate web transcription tool. The web tool processes uploads on its hosting server and has different privacy and setup requirements. For privacy questions or a request to delete support correspondence, use the same email address.
